What Really Matters?
We sit around and debate periodization schemes, toss around ideas on energy system development, and discuss movement. But really, in the grand scheme of things, how much does that matter? While it is certainly interesting and important, videos like the one below make me often question what it is I do for a career, as there are professionals out there that are doing things which impact millions of people on a daily basis – Doctors who are trying to save lives, researchers who are studying the body to “crack the code” behind fatal diseases, etc.
Don’t get me wrong. I love this profession and I can’t think of anything more I am interested in doing. However, videos like this always make me think about if what I do really matters.
Enjoy,

Thanks for posting. Very inspirational and does put things into perspective.
Hey patrick,
Yes it is very sad. It got me to thinking about what we do. I hink doing what we are passionate about is a true way of appreciating what we do have and how lucky we are. We make differences in people’s lives in a different way than a doctor. I think that people that are passionate about what they stand for are the true inspiration, including this kid.
Perspective is the name of the game. That video also tells me to do what you love to do for it is what you love to do and nothing more.

Wow! I often think about the same things. That video goes to show you that you can do anything you want to do, even if you don’t do it in the exact same way as everyone else. That’s true individualism at the heart of its core. Great post!
Dont sell yourself short man, while it does put some things into perspective and allows for you to not take things for granted. People like yourself can make a huge difference in someones life.
Maybe a young athlete you train is able to make strides in their athletic performance and obtain that college scholarship and become that doctor to help save someones life. Or that weekend warrior that is overweight and you help them to overcome confidence/self-esteem issues. That can be just as life-changing for that individual. That is your passion and drive to be the best at what you do to make a difference. What you do certainly matters. As a healthcare professional i can appreciate quality fitness professionals do as I have seen it firsthand. Keep up the great content!
